¡Qué excitante!
El viernes 8 de junio el Screamin’ Festival será el escenario anfitrión de un «All Star Doo Wop Show» con Stan Zizka, Linda Gail Lewis, Tom Ferrara, Sonny West, Carlos (Bandidos), Charlie Hightone y Hector Quintero. Estos excitantes talentos estarán respaldados por las Four Candles.
Si estás pensando… ¿Doo… qué? Es posible que estés más familiarizado con algunos de los éxitos clásicos de Doo Wop de los años 50 y 60 como «Runaround Sue», «The Wanderer», «Ruby Baby», «Crying in the Chapel» y ‘Book of Love’.
El Doo Wop es un estilo fiel a las raíces del Screamin’ Festival, cuya edición de este año marca el 20 aniversario del ambicioso proyecto del festival. La esperanza del organizador es que «todos se sientan bienvenidos y representados en la amplia y rica gama de estilos musicales que nacieron y contribuyeron a la revolución juvenil de los años 50 en Estados Unidos y, más tarde, en el resto del planeta».
El Doo Wop tuvo su origen en la fértil y creativa década de los treinta en la costa este de los Estados Unidos entre las comunidades afroamericanas, aunque no se hizo popular hacia la década de los cincuenta y es reconocido como un género de Rhythm and Blues.
En el All Star Doo Bop Show de este año podremos encontrar a:
Stan Zizka, un miembro original de los Del Satins, que ayudaron a lanzar «Runaround Sue» al mundo con amplio reconocimiento. El sábado 9 de junio también podréis escuchar a su banda principal junto a otro miembro original desde 1958, Tom Ferrara (The Capris).
También estará Linda Gail Lewis, conocida por sus habilidades al piano. También estará el sábado con su Crazy Cavan and the Rythm Rockers.
Charlie Hightone estará acompañado por Carlos Slap justo antes del Doo Wop Show . Forman parte de la crème de la crème de la escena española, y hacia finales de año van a lanzar algunas nuevas colaboraciones para El Toro Records. Carlos and The Bandidos estarán tocando también el sábado por la noche en la sala principal. Se trata de una banda inglesa que mezcla una temática de bandidos mexicanos con el rockabilly.
Héctor Quintero también estará con The Ragtones el jueves en el Santi’s bar. Él es conocido por su voz única, y como descubrí en el facebook de ‘The New Angels’, en sus actuaciones combina el rockabilly más genuino con incursiones en otros estilos en boga durante los años 50, entre ellos el Doo Wop.
Sonny West canta el tema que suena en el trailer del festival. Tiene un verdadero feeling de rock and roll con toques de Wild West y la reputación de ser salvaje en su guitarra. Puedes comprobarlo el jueves por la noche calentando el escenario y con el dúo The Voodoo Vendedor el miércoles por la noche.

How exciting!
On Friday the 8th of June Screamin’ Festival (El Toro Records) is hosting ‘The All Star Doo Wop Show’ featuring Stan Zizka, Linda Gail Lewis, Tom Ferrara, Sonny West, Carlos (Bandidos), Charlie Hightone y Hector Quintero. These exciting talents are backed up by the Four Candles.
If you’re thinking Do What? You might be more familiar with some of the classic Doo Wop hits from the 50’s and 60’s like ‘Runaround Sue’, The Wanderer’, ‘Ruby Baby’, ‘Crying in the Chapel’ and ‘Book of Love’.
Doo Wop rings true to the heart of the Screamin’ Festival’s roots. This year marks the 20th year of the festival’s ambitious project.
The organiser’s hope is that “everyone feels welcome and represented in the wide and rich range of musical styles that were born with, and contributed to, the youth revolution of the 50s in the USA and later in the rest of the planet.” Doo Wop, originating in the hot bed of creativity of the 1930’s on the East Coast of the United States amongst African American communities. It became popular in the1950’s and is recognised as a genre of Rhythm and Blues.

Stan Zizka is an original member of the Del Satins who helped rocket Runaround Sue into world wide recognition. You can catch him with another original member of the band from 1958, Tom Ferrara (The Capris) with the Del Satin’s headlining on the 9th of June Saturday night.
You can listen to Linda Gail Lewis, known for her rockin’ piano skills, directly after the ‘The All Star Doo Wop Show’, and she’ll also be headlining with Crazy Cavan and the Rhythm Rockers on Saturday night.
Charlie Hightone will be accompanied by Carlos Slap right before the Doo Wop Show. They are some of the crème de la crème of the Spanish scene, and they’ll be releasing some new collaborations for El Toro Records by the end of the year. Carlos and the Bandidos will be performing late on Saturday night in the main hall. They’re a UK band playing on a fun and original Mexican bandidos theme and rockabilly.
Hector Quintero will also being playing with The Ragtones on Thursday at Santi’s bar. He’s well sought after for his unique voice, and as I discovered on ‘The New Angels’ facebook in his performances, he combines the most genuine rockabilly with forays into other styles in vogue during the 50s, and one of those styles is Doo Wop’.
Sonny West sings the Screamin’ festival theme tune in their trailer. It’s got a true rock and roll feel with touches of Wild West. He’s got a reputation as being wild on his guitar. You can check him out on Thursday night getting the stage well heated up and with the duo The Voodoo Vendor’s on Wednesday night.
