Entrevista a Chez Kane: ‘Podéis esperar un show emocionante, enérgico y pasional’

Hola, Srta. Kane. Antes de nada, gracias por tu tiempo. ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo te encontramos?

¡Hola! Estoy muy bien, gracias. Las cosas están en marcha y me mantengo ocupada. Justo como me gusta, jajaja.

Esta semana te veremos en directo en Barcelona y Madrid, concierto que espero con ansias. ¿Qué podemos esperar?

Oh, como puedes imaginar, estoy encantada de visitar estas bonitas ciudades por primera vez y poder tocar allí será tremendo. Puedes esperar un show emocionante, enérgico y pasional por parte de los chicos y yo misma. Hemos trabajado muy duro y esperamos que todo el mundo vea como nos gusta hacer esto. ¡Tenemos muchas ganas de tocar para todo el mundo en España este fin de semana!

Hablemos un poco de Powerzone (2023). Lo he puesto como tercer mejor álbum del año, pero podría haber ocupado la primera o segunda posición. ¿Qué sientes?

Wow, muchas gracias, pero sí… el primer puesto sonaría bien, jajaja. Honestamente, el simple hecho de que se reconozca mi música ya es la hostia, pero estar en tops anuales es muy especial ¡Gracias!

¿Ves evolución entre tu primer trabajo y este?

Sí, creo que la relación profesional entre Danny y yo ha crecido desde nuestro debut a Powerzone. En el álbum debut, Danny ya tenía algunas canciones compuestas y listas antes de saber que sería yo quien las cantase. Para Powerzone, escribió específicamente para mí y creo que se puede sentir un poco más. Adoro ambos discos y siento que estamos creciendo y marchando por la dirección correcta.

¿Puedes hablarnos del proceso de composición? ¿Cómo trabajasteis Danny y tú?

Danny es la mente tras las canciones, ha escrito todo en ambos álbumes. Cuando Danny y yo empezamos a trabajar juntos, la idea fue que volaría a Suecia o él al Reino Unido para trabajar en el álbum, pero llegó la pandemia y nos encerraron. Por suerte, Tengo todo el equipo en casa para grabar mi parte y nos lo íbamos mandando… frenó un poco todo el proceso pero conseguimos que funcionara bastante bien y decidimos seguir con el mismo plan para Powerzone.

¿Eres capaz de escoger un solo tema como tu preferido? Si ayuda, escogí «Powerzone», la canción, como una de las mejores cinco de 2022.

Oh, me cuesta elegir, amo cada uno de los temas de los dos discos. No las metería en un álbum si no las amase. Así que, por ahora, también diré «Powerzone» porque realmente AMO cantarla en directo.

También estarás en algunos festivales españoles. Chez Kane empieza a ser conocida. ¿Podías esperar esto hace un par de años, cuando estabas en Kaned?

Honestamente, no. Estoy tan emocionada al ver como han ido estos últimos años y estoy muy agradecida de poder seguir haciendo lo que me gusta. Es alucinante que la gente me reconozca a mí y a mi música y estoy muy contenta de poder visitar España en esta gira y los festivales durante el año. Espero que sea el principio de muchos conciertos en España.

Podemos ver mucho de los 80 no solo en tu música, también en tus vídeos. Por lo que he leído en twitter, tuviste algunos problemas por que las chichas vestían de según qué forma. ¿Cómo te sientes, viviendo en 2023? ¿No es un poco ridículo?

He crecido idolantrando a las mujeres del rock, especialmente la estética ochentera rockera. Todas se veían alucinantes y nunca pensé que podría vestir o ser como ellas. Es bonito, es sexy, es empoderante y lo que la gente debe saber es que nos hace sentir bien. Queremos sentirnos bien, nos da confianza en nosotras mismas.

Sobre la banda, los músicos que irán contifo. ¿Qué nos puedes decir sobre ellos?

Vendrás los mismos tíos que hicieron mi reciente tour en el Reino Unido. Estos tíos han trabajado muy duro y estoy encantada de tener a Harry Scott Elliott, James Ready, Jay Haines y Keiran Ready a mi lado para estos conciertos. ¡Vamos a pasarlo muy bien!

Hi Mrs. Kane. First of all, thank you for your time. How are you? How do we find you?

Hi, I am really good thank you, things are exciting and i’m keeping busy. Just how I like it. Ha ha.

This weekend we’ll be seeing you live in Barcelona and Madrid, show that I’m expecting really hard. What can we expect from it?

Oh, as you can imagine, I am so excited to be visiting these beautiful places for the first time and to be able to play shows there is going to be so amazing. You can expect a very exciting, energetic and passionate performance from me & the guys. We have worked so hard and we hope that everyone else will see how much we love to do this… we can’t wait to perform to everyone in Spain this weekend.

Let’s talk about Powerzone. I have ranked it as the 3rd best album of the year, but it could be 1st or 2nd. How do you feel about it?

Wow, thank you so much but yes… No. 1 would be good. Hahaha. Honestly, just to have my music recognized is amazing, but to then be added to top ten lists in very special. Thank you!

Do you see any evolution from your first work to this one?

Yes, I believe the working relationship between Danny and I has grown a bit from the debut to Powerzone. On the debut album, Danny already had songs written and ready to go before he knew I would be the one singing them. Then for Powerzone, he was writing specifically for me and I feel you can hear that a bit more now. I adore both albums and I feel like we are growing and heading in the right direction.

Can you tell us about the composing process? How did Danny and you worked?

Danny is the mastermind behind these songs, he has written everything on both albums. When Danny & I started working together, the idea was that I would fly to Sweden or Danny would fly here to the UK to work on the album, etc… but we got hit with the pandemic and then we were all stuck. Fortunately, I had the equipment at home to record my vocals and we sent the stuff back and for… it slowed down the process but we made it work and it worked out quite well so we decided to continue with this same working plan for Powerzone too.

Are you able to pick a single song as your favorite? If it helps, I picked «Powerzone», the song, as one of the 5 best of 2022.

Oh, it’s hard for me to choose, I love every song on both albums. I wouldn’t put them on the album if I wasn’t in love with the songs. So for now, I will say «Powerzone» too because I actually LOVE singing that song live.

You will also be in some Spanish festivals. Chez Kane is starting to be well known. Could you expect all this a couple of years ago, when you were in Kaned?

Honestly, no. I am so blown away thinking back to how these past few years have gone and I’m so grateful to be able to continue to do what I love. It’s really amazing that people are recognizing me and my music now and I am so excited to be able to visit Spain for these upcoming headline shows & festivals later this year. I hope it’s the start of many shows in Spain.

We can see a lot of 80’s no only in your music, but also in your videoclips. As far as I have seen in twitter, you had some problems about girls wearing certain clothes. How do you feel about it, living in 2023? Isn’t it a bit ridiculous?

I have grown up idolizing women in rock, especially the 80’s rock look. They all looked so amazing and I never thought I could dress or be like them. Its beautiful, it’s sexy, it’s empowering and what people need to know is that it makes us feel good. We all wanna feel good, it gives us confidence.

About the band, the musicians that will go on tour with you. What can you tell us about them?

I will have the same guys with me as my recent UK headline tour. These guys have worked so hard and I am so excited to have Harry Scott Elliott, James Ready, Jay Haines and Keiran Ready by my side for these shows, we’re gonna have so much fun!
