Thundermother: ¡una explosión sueca con las chicas más ruidosas del mundo! Así se definen ellas mismas. Actitud, energía, riffs salvajes y un ritmo sólido que bebe directamente del agua que emanaba de las fuentes del rock de los años 70. Aprovechamos que dentro de unas semanas (el próximo 1 de mayo @ Razz) vendrán de nuevo por aquí abriendo, junto con Audrey Horne, para Backyard Babies, para charlar, one more time, con su vocalista Guernica Mancini.

SofN: ¡Hola! En primer lugar, muchas gracias por atendernos. Acabáis de hacer una gira por España hace unas semanas. ¿Cómo ha ido?
¡Hola! Pues muy bien, nos divertimos. Realmente amamos España.
SofN: Supongo que la formación actual de la banda suena mejor que nunca. ¿Crees que este es el mejor lineup hasta la fecha?
Tendría que estar de acuerdo con esa declaración… jajaja. Todas somos músicas talentosas que realmente se complementan.
SofN: ¿Cuál es el rol de cada una de vosotras dentro de la banda, tanto musical como energéticamente?
Todas compartimos la responsabilidad de dar el 110% cuando es el momento de actuar y dividimos las responsabilidades después, tiempo, conocimiento, etc. Pero nuestro objetivo siempre es dividir la carga de trabajo de manera equitativa.
SofN: Habéis cambiado de dos a una sola guitarra, pero la banda suena tan poderosa como siempre. ¿Crees que es principalmente una cuestión de actitud?
Se trata de talento y de tener las músicas adecuadas. Y, por supuesto, la actitud de tener el coraje de enfrentarse a todos los detractores que no saben nada de música ni de cómo ha de sonar. Preferimos tener un sonido compacto que lo contrario.
SofN: Vuestro último álbum salió el año pasado y lleva por título el nombre de la banda. ¿Es esta una manera de marcar un nuevo comienzo para la banda?
Se podría decir que sí. Después de todo por lo que ha pasado la banda, fue más importante que nunca asegurarse de que la gente supiera que estamos aquí para quedarnos y que somos más fuertes que nunca.
SofN: ¿Cómo funciona la banda a nivel compositivo?
Filippa es y ha sido la principal compositora y el motor creativo de la banda. Pero para el cuarto álbum, todas estamos involucradas y es muy divertido, y hasta ahora hemos creado material realmente genial juntas, lo que es muy emocionante.
SofN: ¿Tenéis planeado sacar algo nuevo este año? ¿Qué otros planes tenéis para el 2019 y qué os gustaría exprimir?
El plan principal para el 2019 es escribir tantas canciones como sea posible y hacer una gira. ¡Tenemos un año muy emocionante por delante!
SofN: La escena escandinava de rock ‘n’ roll de alto voltaje de finales de los 90, con bandas como Backyard Babies, The Hellacopters, Turbonegro, Gluecifer o Hardcore Superstar, fue genial a muchos niveles. ¿Cuántas de estas bandas han sido una influencia para ti y cómo está la escena en este momento?
Obviamente, fueron una inspiración cuando era adolescente. Todas estas bandas son geniales y nos han inspirado a todas de diferentes maneras. Para mí, personalmente, solo diría que el hecho de que tantas grandes bandas provengan de Suecia me ha dado la esperanza de que yo también podría hacerlo algún día.
SofN: Cada vez hay más y más mujeres cogiendo los instrumentos, algo que creo que es genial y necesario. ¿Por qué crees que todavía hay tan pocas mujeres en proporción con el número de hombres y qué crees que se puede hacer para mejorar eso? ¿Tienes que enfrentarte a menudo a algún tipo de problema porque todas sois mujeres?
Creo que es, sobre todo, porque no hay muchos modelos a seguir por ahí. Haciendo lo que hacemos, espero que ayudemos a cambiar eso. Las cosas suceden y seguimos adelante y no permitimos que ni el juicio u otras cosas nos detengan. Pero, por supuesto, espero que algún día nos vean como músicas y no como mujeres que tocan.
SofN: Habéis girado con muchas bandas. ¿De cuáles tienes mejores recuerdos?
¡The Dead Daisies! Esos tipos no solo son grandes músicos, sino que también son unas personas increíbles. ¡Nosotras les amamos!
SofN: En menos de dos meses regresaréis junto a Backyard Babies. ¿Qué esperas de esta gira y cuál es tu opinión sobre BB?
Son una gran banda y estamos muy emocionadas de hacer una gira con ellos. ¡Tenemos la esperanza de ganar algunos nuevos fans!
SofN: Si pudieras organizar una gira con las cuatro bandas que quisieras, siendo Thundermother una de ellas, ¿cuáles elegirías y por qué?
Buena pregunta… Guns N’ Roses, Airborne y Rival Sons. ¡Porque me encantan esas bandas y porque creo que sería un combo ÉPICO y sería una noche legendaria! Además, que las diferentes vibraciones de las bandas serían complementarias y no aburrirían a la audiencia… jajaja.

SofN: Hi! First of all, thank you very much for attending us. You just toured in Spain a few weeks ago, how did it go?
Hi! It went really well, we had fun and we really love Spain.
SofN: I guess the current lineup of the band is sounding better than ever. Do you think this is the best one so far?
I would have to agree with that statement… hahaha. We are all talented musicians that really compliment each other.
SofN: What is the role of each one of you within the band today, both musically and energetically?
We all share the responsibility of giving 110% when it’s time to perform and of stage we divide the responsibilities after, time, knowledge, etc. But we always aim to divide the workload evenly.
SofN: You switched from two to one guitars, but the band sounds as powerful as ever. Do you think it is mainly a matter of attitude?
It’s about talent and having the right musicians. And, of course, attitude to have the courage to face all the naysayers who know nothing about music and how it should sound. We rather have a tight sounding band than the opposite.
SofN: Your last album came out last year and it is self-titled. Is this a way to mark a new beginning for the band?
You could say that yes. After everything the band has been through it was more important than ever to make sure that people know we are here to stay and that we are stronger than ever.
SofN: How does the band work composition-wise?
Filippa is and has been the main songwriter and the creative engine of the band. But for the forth album we are all involved and its a lot of fun and so far we have created really great material together and it’s very exciting.
SofN: Do you have plans for new music during this year? What other plans do you have for 2019 and what would you like to squeeze out of it?
The main plan 2019 is to write as many songs as possible and tour tour tour. Very exciting year ahead!
SofN: The Scandinavian high energy rock and roll scene of the late nineties, with bands like Backyard Babies, The Hellacopters, Turbonegro, Gluecifer or Hardcore Superstar was great in so many levels. How much are those bands an influence for you and how is the scene right now?
But, obviously, an inspiration as a teen. All these bands are great and have inspired us all in different ways. For me personally I would just say that the fact that so many great bands come from Sweden has given me hope that I too could make it one day.
SofN: There are more and more women picking up the instruments these days, something that I think it is great and necessary. Why do you think there is still so little women in proportion to men and what do you think we can do to improve this? Do you have to often face some sort issues because you are all women?
I think it’s mostly because there aren’t many role models out there. By doing what we do I am hoping we’ll help change that. Things happen all the time and we just keep on going and don’t let the judgment or other bs stop us. But of course I hope that one day we’ll just be seen as musicians and not females that play.
SofN: You have toured with many bands. Which ones you have better memories from?
The Dead Daisies! Those guys are not just great musicians but also amazing down to earth people. We love them!
SofN: In less than two months you will be back again along with Backyard Babies. What do you expect from this tour for Thundermother and what is your opinion of BB?
They are a great band and we are super excited to tour with them. Hoping to gain some new fans!
SofN: If you could put up a tour with any four bands you wanted, being Thundermother one of them, which ones would you choose and why?
Good question… Guns N’ Roses, Airborne and Rival Sons. Why because I love these bands and think it would be a EPIC combo and make a legendary night! Also the different vibes of the band would be complementary and not bore the audience haha
