Cierto día, no hace demasiado, el redactor del artículo recibió una solicitud de seguimiento en una red social. Un par de días más tarde, en la misma red social, Science of Noise recibió un mensaje de Susanna Radimovskaya, vocalista de la banda de hard rock / glam ucraniana Star Crystal, pidiendo una entrevista.
Como somos buena gente, empezamos a escuchar la música de la banda y, de forma natural, varias preguntas fueron apareciendo. La vocalista nos habla de su música y de sus planes, pero también de la situación de su país y del papel de la mujer en este estilo de música.

Hola, Susanna. Antes de nada, gracias por contactar con nosotros, me has hecho descubrir tu banda y suena genial. ¿Qué tal estás?
Todo bien, gracias. Mi banda y yo estamos trabajando en nuevas canciones y planificando un tour europeo, así que pronto podremos traer alegría a la gente.
He estado escuchando Follow Me (2021) y suena muy bien. Puedo ver muchas influencias por ahí, pero para que nuestros lectores estén seguros, ¿puedes decirnos qué bandas son vuestra mayor influencia?
Estamos influenciados por el glam metal de los 80: Mötley Crüe, Mr. Big, Winger, Vixen, Bon Jovi… Glam/heavy metal es lo que más nos gusta. También bandas sonoras de películas, especialmente de los 80. Tocamos glam / heavy metal de los 80, la música con la que crecimos y con la que soñamos que tocaríamos con nuestros instrumentos imaginarios o cantando delante de una horda de metalheads.
Desde hace algún tiempo hay un buen elenco de bandas encabezadas por una chica. Entrevisté a Chez Kane hace algunos días, y me dijo que le gusta vestir sexy, a pesar de todas las críticas que pueda recibir en redes sociales. Dijo que se sentía «empoderada». ¿Qué opinas sobre esto?
Estoy completamente de acuerdo con Chez, me siento igual. Creo que los músicos son, de alguna forma, artistas y ofrecen un show a la gente, así que el público no solo escucha su música sino que ve el espectáculo. De eso se trata el glam. El glam va sobre chicas sexys, liberadas, que visten de cuero y shorts muy cortos.
Siguiendo la pregunta anterior, nos seguimos el uno al otro en Instagram, y esa idea se ve claramente. ¿Es algo estudiado o sale así de forma natural?
Diría que es algo entre estudiado y natural. Para eso se diseñó Instagram, lo hacemos para que se vea lo que queramos que se vea. Si no fuese natural no lo usaríamos.
Star Crystal nace en Ucrania, un lugar triste desde hace algún tiempo, cuando empezó la guerra. Antes de nada, ¿estáis bien, la banda, tú y todos los vuestros? ¿Cómo afecta una cosa así a una banda?
Sí, gracias, todos los miembros de la banda y nuestros familiares están bien. Vivimos en una zona de Ucrania más o menos segura. La guerra nos afectó mucho, y ahora tenemos algunas restricciones con los ensayos, ya que no podemos estar en la calle después de la medianoche. También tenemos apagones cada dos horas, así que es difícil tocar música tal y como lo hacíamos antes.
Volvamos a la música. Vuestro último álbum, si he visto bien, es de 2021. ¿Qué planes tenéis a corto plazo?
Como dije antes, estamos planeando sacar nuestro tercer álbum. Ya tenemos siete canciones y muchas ideas para otras.
También tenéis otro disco de 2017, Revival of Glam, pero no lo he podido encontrar. ¿Dónde podemos escucharlo?
Podéis encontrarlo en todas las plataformas digitales. Solamente, buscad ‘Star Crystal’ en vuestra plataforma de streaming. Aquí tenéis, por ejemplo, un link a Spotify.
Star Crystal no es una banda muy conocida en España. Si tuvieras que escoger solamente una canción para daros a conocer, ¿cuál escogerías?
Como la gente de España es muy caliente ?, escogería “Come on Baby”, pues tiene fuego. Podéis ver también el videoclip.
Ucrania no es demasiado conocida por su escena rockera y metalera. ¿Cómo ves la escena? ¿Alguna recomendación?
Es cierto, por eso tocamos solamente en Europa y, para nosotros, es imposible tocar a día de hoy en Ucrania. Triste pero cierto.

Hi, Susanna. First of all, thanks for contacting us, you’ve just made me discover your band and it sounds great. How are you?
All good thank you, I and my band are working on new songs and planning a new European tour, so soon we will be able to give joy to the people.
I’ve been listening to Follow Me (2021) and it sound great. I can see many influences there, but just to make it sure for our reader, could you tell us which are the band’s biggest musical influences?
We are inspired by Glam metal of the ’80s: Mötley Crüe, Whitesnake, Mr. Big, Winger, Vixen, Jon Bon, and so on. Glam/Heavy metal is the most appealing for us. Also soundtracks from movies, especially from the 80s. We play 80s glam / heavy metal, the music we grew up with, and dreamed that we would play this music on imaginary musical instruments or sing in front of screaming crowds of metalheads.
Since some time ago, there are a bunch of hard rock bands headed by a girl. I interviewed Chez Kane some days ago, and she told me that she enjoys looking sexy, despite all the critics she might received in social media. She said that she felt empowered. What are your thoughts on this idea?
I completely agree with Chez, I feel the same way. I think that musicians on the scene are artists in some way and they give a show for the people, so the audience not only listens to the music but also watches the show. That is what glam metal does. Glam metal is all about sexy girls, liberated, who are dressed in leather, and short shorts.
Following the previous question, we follow each other on Instagram, and that idea can be seen. Is it something studied or just come up naturally?
I would say that it is something in the middle between studied and naturally. I that is how Instagram was designed so, we do it to be able to see what we want to see. If it would be unnaturally we wouldn’t use Instagram.
Star Crystal is born in Ukraine, a sad place since some time ago, when the war started. Before anything else: are you, the band and all related ok? Then, wow does affect such an event in a band?
Yes thanks, all the members of the band are ok and their relatives. We live in more or less save part of Ukraine. The war affected us a lot, and now we have some restrictions with rehearsal time, as we aren’t allowed to be in the streets after midnight. Also, we have blackouts every two hours so it is difficult to make music as we used to.
Let’s go back to music. Your latest album, as far as I have seen, is from 2021. Which are the band’s plans in a short term?
As I said earlier we planning to release the third album, we already created seven songs for this album, and have some ideas for other songs.
You also have an album from 2017, Revival of Glam, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. Where can we listen to it?

Star Crystal is not such a known band in Spain. I f you had to choose one song to introduce you to people, which one would you choose?
As Spanish people are hot 🙂 I would choose «Come on Baby», it has drive and fire. Also check out our video on this song.
Ukraine it is not known for their rock and metal bands. How do you see it’s scene? Any recommendations?
Yes, it is true, that is why we play only in Europe, and for us, it is not possible to play our music in Ukraine. It is sad but true.
