Después de haber repasado a todas y cada una de las bandas nacionales que van a participar en el festival Tótum Revolútum de este año, hoy empezamos con las tres que vienen desde fuera de nuestras fronteras. La primera de ellas es LizZard, una banda que conocemos bien ya que nos ha visitado en tres ocasiones, la última de ellas hace solo unos meses junto a O.R.k. En todas ellas, su energía y saber hacer sobre el escenario nos han encandilado sin remedio, y estamos seguros que su paso por el auditorio del Carrer Calàbria 66 no va a ser una excepción.
SofN: Antes que nada, muchas gracias por dedicar algo de vuestro tiempo a responder estas preguntas para Science of Noise. ¿Cómo estáis?
Muy bien, gracias. Con muchas ganas de venir a Barcelona.
SofN: Para aquellos que no conozcan vuestra banda, explicadnos un poco quiénes sois, de dónde venís y qué hace que seáis lo que sous. ¿Qué habéis publicado de momento y dónde podemos encontrarlo?
Somos un trío de rock / metal procedente de Francia, y tenemos tres discos: Out of Reach, Majestic y Shift. ¡Los podéis encontrar en cualquier sitio! En vez de describir nuestra música preferimos enviar a la gente a YouTube o a nuestras otras redes sociales para que puedan escucharlo por sí mismos, empezando por www.lizzard.fr. ¡Solo estamos a dos clicks! 😉
SofN: ¿Los fans de qué bandas creéis que deberian pegarle una escuchada a vuestra música?
Nuestra audiencia parece muy diversa, desde fans de bandas setenteras como Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, King Crimson o Pink Floyd; ochenteras como Metallica, Pixies o Jane’s Addiction, noventeras como Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Tool, NIN o Deftones. ¡Y muchas más!
SofN: Pronto vendréis al Tótum Revolútum. ¿Qué conocéis del festival? ¿Cómo llegásteis a tocar aquí?
No sabemos mucho, la verdad, pero hablamos con algunos de los organizadores en la última gira que hicimos. Supongo que se pusieron en contacto con nuestro agente de contratación y a partir de ahí se cerró todo.
SofN: ¿Conocéis alguna de la otras bandas que van a tocar en el festival? Si es así… ¿cuáles de ellas estais deseando ver?
Conocemos a Echotest ya que su bajista, Julie Slick, es una buena amiga nuestra. Giramos juntos en 2016 con The Adrian Belew Power Trio. ¡Tenemos muchas ganas de verlos! También Noah Histeria es una banda que hemos escuchado y nos ha gustado. ¡El cartel parece muy atractivo así que tenemos muchas ganas de descubrir nuevas bandas!
SofN: ¿Qué crees que vuestro concierto puede aportar al global del festival? ¿Qué crees que hace que vuestra banda sea especial entre las demás en el cartel y en la escena progresiva?
¡Tenemos mucha energía sobre el escenario! Supongo que todas las bandas son distintas a su manera, y nos encantan los festivales por esta precisa razón. Es bonito tener varios estilos dentro de la escena progresiva.
SofN: Aunque hay muchos estilos representados, todas las bandas participantes en el festival tienen una cosa en común: sois pequeños baluartes dentro de una escena progresiva joven que está viviendo un momento dulce en los últimos años, tanto a nivel de calidad como de popularidad. ¿Por qué creéis que hay este interés últimamente?
¡No entendemos mucho de modas y tendencias musicales! Es realmente bonito ver que el movimiento prog está vivo y con tanta fuerza. Si tantos oídos están disfrutando del momento es probablemente porque hay muchas buenas bandas haciendo buena música dentro del género.
SofN: En Barcelona, especialmente, creo que esta escena es particularmente fuerte, con muchas bandas de gran calidad y eventos anuales como el propio Tótum Revolútum, el AMFest o el Be Prog! My Friend estableciéndose año tras año. ¿Cómo está el tema en vuestra área de procedencia? ¿Lo notáis ahí también?
La escena en Francia no es tan fuerte como en muchos países que nos rodean (Italia, Alemania, España, Holanda…), ¡así que sentimos que estamos un poco en el sitio equivocado! Pero no importa porque ahora mismo tenemos seguidores en la mayoría de países europeos y por suerte no necesitamos depender de Francia para hacer conciertos.
SofN: ¿Habéis tocado en Barcelona antes? ¿Qué recordáis de esos conciertos?
Sí, hemos estado tres veces anteriormente. Tocamos este mismo año en el Razzmatazz 3, y fue un gran concierto. También un par de veces en 2016, en la Sala Bikini. Siempre hay un gran ambiente en Barcelona, como visitante o como músico.
SofN: ¿Qué planes tenéis para 2018 y qué os gustaría ver cuando echéis la vista atrás a final de año?
Esperamos haber girado bastante después del verano, y ya hemos empezado a trabajar en algunas canciones nuevas. Es un poco temprano para estar pensando en un nuevo disco, así que para 2018 es, sencillamente, tantos conciertos como sea posible. ¡Y quizás un video nuevo en breve!
SofN: Si tuvierais que escoger una sola canción de vuestro catálogo que creais que os representa más que cualquier otra, ¿cuál sería y por qué?
Ahora mismo «Singularity» (el primer single de nuestro nuevo disco) es muy representativa de nuestro estilo, ya que tiene todos los elementos que nos definen. Pegadle un ojo al vídeo en YouTube. Es una canción bastante larga con pasajes pesados, pasajes tranquilos, pasajes más triposos… y mola!
SofN: Si puedierais montar una gira con cuatro bandas, siendo LizZard una de ellas, ¿Cuáles escogeriais y por qué?
Si podemos incluir bandas que ya no existen, entonces probablemente Led Zeppelin, Metallica, NiN y LizZard. Por el inmenso seguimiento que tiene cada una de ellas, porque es una banda de cada década y porque las tres son legendarias en lo referente a la energía que sale del escenario. ¡Aunque me imagino que el público moriría exhausto antes del final del concierto!

SofN: For those that don’t know your band, tell us a bit who you are, where do you come from and what makes you who you are. ¿What have you published so far and where can we find it?
We’re a rock/metal trio from France, and we have 3 albums: Out Of Reach, Majestic, and Shift. You can find them anywhere! SofN: ¿The fans of which bands you think should check out your music?
Our audience seems to be very diverse, for example fans of 70s bands such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, 80s bands Metallica, Pixies, Janes Addiction, 90s bands Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Tool, NIN, Deftones and many more!
SofN: You will be soon coming to the Tótum Revolútum. What do you know about the festival? How did you get to play there?
We don’t know too much about it, but we’d met some of the organisers on a previous tour we did! I guess they got in touch with our booking agent and things went from there.
SofN: Do you know any of the other bands that will be playing in the festival? If so, which ones are you looking forward to see?
We know Echotest as their bassist Julie Slick is a friend of ours, we toured together in 2016 with The Adrian Belew Power Trio. Looking forward to seeing them play! Also Noah Histeria is a band we’ve heard before and liked. The line up for the festival looks really cool actually so we’re looking forward to discovering new bands!
SofN: What do you think your show can give to the whole of the festival? What do you think makes your band special amongst the other ones in the bill and in the progressive scene?
We bring a lot of energy to the stage! I guess all bands are different and special in their own ways, and we love festivals for that reason. It’s nice to have diverse styles within the prog scene.
SofN: Even though there are a lot of styles represented, all the bands in the festival have one thing in common: you are small strongholds for a young progressive scene that is living a wordlwide sweet moment in the last few years, both in terms of quality and popularity. Why do you think there is such interest lately?
We don’t really understand how music fashion and trends work! It’s definitely nice to see the prog movement alive and kicking right now. If people’s ears are pricking up at the moment it’s probably because many good bands are making good music within the genre.
SofN: In Barcelona, specially, I think this scene is getting particularly strong, with lots of great bands and yearly events like the Tótum Revólutum, the AMFest or the Be Prog! My Friend Festival establishing themselves. How do you see it in your own areas of origin? Do you notice it too there?
The scene in France is actually not as strong as many countries directly around us (Italy, Germany, Spain, Holland…) so we feel like we’re in the wrong place! But it doesn’t matter because we do now have a following in most European countries and luckily we don’t need to rely on France to do shows.
SofN: Have you played in Barcelona before? What do you remember about those shows?
Yes we’ve been 3 times before, we played the Razzmatazz this year already which was a great show. Also a couple of times in 2016 at Sala Bikini, it’s always a great vibe in Barcelona, as a visitor or a performer.
SofN: What plans do you have for 2018 and what would you like to see when you turn the head back at the end of the year?
Hopefully we’ll be touring quite a bit after the summer, and we’ve already started work on some new songs. It’s a bit early to start thinking about a new album, so for 2018 it’s just as many shows as possible, and maybe a new video coming soon!
SofN: If you had to choose a single song from your catalog that you think it represents you more than any other, which one would it be and why?
Right now „Singularity“ (the 1st single from the new album) is very representative of our style, it has all the elements! Check out the video on YouTube. It’s quite a long song with heavy passages, quiet passages, trippy passages, and it rocks!
SofN: If you could put up a tour line up with any four bands, being yours one of them, which ones would you choose and why?
If we can include bands that are no longer around, then probably Led Zeppelin, Metallica, NIN and LizZard! Because of the huge cult followings they all have, one band from each decade, and all legendary for the energy that came off stage. I guess the crowd might die of exhaustion before the end of the show though!

Siempre me ha encantado escribir y siempre me ha encantado el rock, el metal y muchos más estilos. De hecho, me gustan tantos estilos y tantas bandas que he llegado a pensar que he perdido completamente el criterio, pero es que hay tanta buena música ahí fuera que es imposible no seguirse sorprendiendo día a día.
Tengo una verborrea incontenible y me gusta inventarme palabras. Si habéis llegado hasta aquí, seguro que ya os habéis dado cuenta.
